Can Your Favorite Yankee Candle Change Your Appearance?

Driving to work yesterday, I heard the DJ ask the morning's trivia question: According to new research, wearing what can make a Woman appear 10 pounds lighter to Men? The typical responses like "something black" came through rather quickly but the true answer remained elusive until the DJ hinted that it was nothing that could be seen. The invisible slimming devise, it seems, is the right scent! Arriving at work, I searched the Internet for the source of this question and found that according to research conducted at the Smell & Taste Treatment & Research Foundation women who wear spicy floral fragrances appear 5-12 pounds thinner to men. What was really intriguing to me is that on average the men rated the woman wearing the scent as 4-5 pounds under her actual weight, but the men who found the scent pleasing dropped her weight to 12 pounds less! To me it shows that being around a scent you like - or even love! - makes a world of difference!

In a similar study by the same foundation, certain citrus scents were found to leave the impression that the person wearing the aroma was up to 6 years younger! I think I've found another reason to surround myself with my new favorite fragrance, Pink Sands™: a "
mix of bright citrus, sweet florals and spicy vanilla".

Break Away from Winter With Spring Days™ by Yankee Candle

If ever there was a winter that made me yearn for spring, this is certainly the one. Some days I keep upbeat by remembering that it's been a tough few months all over the country. Whether it's snow or sleet or ice, we all seem to be going through it together! To while away these last remaining days of winter, my family starts planning for spring. We think of springtime celebrations like Easter and Mother's Day. And we think a lot about flowers. What will we plant in the garden? We even think about just cleaning up the yard after the snow melts - how good the earth will smell once the sun warms it up! To help us get in the mood, we light some of our favorite spring-y scents. This week we're lighting fresh clean Storm Watch® and the new limited edition Spring Days. There is nothing like the scent of spring to refresh the spirit and rejuvenate the soul!

Storm Watch® and Spring Days™ are now available at all Yankee Candle Company retail stores, and on our website.

Yankee Candle Fragrance Boosts Your Scent Appeal!

I first realized the emotional appeal of Yankee Candle fragrances when I was house hunting. When my husband and I were newly married and living in a small apartment, one of our favorite pasttimes was scouring the neighborhood for real estate open houses. We loved visiting houses of all types and styles and dreaming about our "some day" home. In those days my favorite houses were the ones that not only looked pretty, but they smelled good too. There was something about a fragrant home that made it feel happy and loved. Inevitably I would find that the source of the scent was a lit Yankee® candle in the kitchen or living room. The warm, friendly aromas of Home Sweet Home® or MacIntosh would fill the air and the house would take on a completely different feel.

On their blog "Real Estate Advice, Answers, and More" Nothnagle Real Estate references the impact of a home's scent on its market value. They write, "there is a direct connection between smell and people's moods so light fragrances can help create 'scent appeal' when used properly in the home ... A light floral fragrance can put people in a more pleasant mood while citrus scents tend to have an energizing effect. Vanilla is often found to be comforting and relaxing." And they further recommend that, "a small reed diffuser in a bathroom can keep the room smelling clean while not overpowering the space."

It makes sense, doesn't it? To make a house a home, you add curb appeal to the outside so why not add scent appeal to the inside?

The Secret to My Gardening Success

Several years ago, our family's garden was part of the local garden club's annual house tour. Having participated in those kinds of events as ticket-holding guests, my husband and I were certainly intimidated by the prospect wondering long and hard about whether our humble gardens would stack up against the rest. So many others had much greener thumbs and an expertise in a certain area: award-winning roses, clever raised beds, tranquil water features, etc. What could be our hook? What would make our amateur patch stand out? As I was lighting my Blue Hydrangea candle several days before the tour, inspiration struck: ours would be a highly fragrant garden! The day of the tour I methodically placed votive holders with Blue Hydrangea Samplers® candles throughout our gardens. Where it was safe to burn them (no overhanging flammable foliage) I lit them, but in most spots I let the warmth of the sun do its job dispersing the fragrance. Our garden was long-remembered as the best scented one on the tour!
